Jeffrey Donaldson has been formally endorsed as the next Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) leader.
Donaldson was endorsed by his party’s electoral college, receiving 32 of the possible 36 votes.
Edwin Poots stepped down as DUP leader last week, just weeks after defeating Jeffrey Donaldson in the leadership race.
Internal divisions within the DUP has caused Arlene Foster to be forced to step down, and then Edwin Poots just weeks later.
Jeffrey Donaldson was the only candidate to put his name forward for the position.
He will become the official party leader next week when the DUP’s ruling executive meets to ratify his appointment.
