Israel reimposes mask-wearing in public places as Covid-19 cases rise

Israel has reimposed a requirement to wear face-coverings in enclosed public places following a rise in Covid-19 cases.

The requirement to wear face-coverings was dropped just ten days ago.

The head of the Israeli pandemic response taskforce said that the requirement has been updated following four straight days of cases over 100 per day.

“We are seeing a doubling every few days,” Nachman Ash said.

“Another thing that’s worrying is that the infections are spreading. If we had two cities where most of the infections were, we have more cities where the numbers are rising and communities where the cases are going up,” he continued.

The rise of the cases is believed to be as a result of the Delta Covid-19 variant, first identified in India.

Israel became one of the world leaders in the Covid-19 vaccination roll-out, lifting restrictions before most nations.
