Antivirus software creator John McAfee found dead in Spanish prison cell

Antivirus software creator John McAfee has been found dead in his prison cell in Spain.

Yesterday, a Spanish court issued a ruling in favour of his extradition to the United States to face criminal charges related to tax.

Security personnel who discovered the 75-year-old businessman attempted to resuscitate him, but McAfee was pronounced dead at the scene.

In the US, Tennessee prosecutors charged McAfee with tax evasion after failing to report income made from promoting cryptocurrencies, as well as income received from speaking engagements.

The charges could have seen McAfee receive a prison sentence of up to 30 years.

He was arrested in Barcelona international airport last October and was held while waiting for the outcome of a hearing on extradition.
