Three arrested after restaurant staff attacked in Dublin city centre

Gardaí have arrested three men after restaurant staff were attacked outside a venue on South William Street in Dublin city centre.

The restaurant staff were attacked with glass bottles and chairs as fights spilt out onto the streets outside the venue with video footage of the incident circulating on social media.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:30pm last night where it’s understood that four young people were causing a disturbance and threw glass bottles at the restaurant workers according to a garda spokesman.

On restaurant worker was hospitalised at St James’s Hospital for injuries that he received following the incident, however, his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Two men in their early 20s along with a teenager were arrested following the incident. They are currently being detained at Pearse Street Garda Station.

The video footage shows one of the restaurant workers in a fight with the young men who were using chairs and glass bottles as weapons. Several other staff members responded to the attack and pursued the group down the street. The altercation was halted after bystanders intervened to break up the fight.

Gardaí are continuing to investigate the incident.

A number of violent incidents have occurred on South William Street earlier this month which resulted in the Garda Public Order Unit being deployed, members of which were also attacked with glass bottles by groups of youths.
