Texas has implemented new legislation which allows the people to carry firearms in public without needing a permit.
Governor Greg Abbott signed the legislation which will allow anyone over 21-years-old, who is not barred from possessing a firearm, to carry one in public without a permit.
The law passed through the Texas Senate and House of Representatives last month.
“This is something that 20 other states have adopted and it’s time for Texas to adopt it, too,” Governor Abbott said.
The law will come into effect from September 1st.
Critics have claimed the new legislation will lead to more gun violence throughout the state.
However, those who voted for the legislation to pass claim that the United States and Texas constitutions allow citizens to bear arms, therefore there should be fewer barriers to be able to carry weapons.
