Teenage girl dies following incident at equestrian centre

A 15-year-old girl has died following an incident at Greenogue Equestrian Centre in Dublin yesterday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 2pm yesterday during an exercise event at the centre located at Tay Lane in Rathcoole. The scene was attended by the National Ambulance Service and the Fire Brigade who provided medical assistance to the teenage girl.


A garda spokesman stated, “Dublin Fire Brigade and the National Ambulance Service were in attendance and providing medical assistance to a young female (15 years) who was injured during an exercise event.”

She was taken to Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin but was pronounced dead a short time after.

The Health and Safety Authority has been notified about the incident and are due to carry out an examination of the scene today.


The coroner has also been notified about the incident. GardaĆ­ stated that an investigation into the incident remains underway and that a file is to be prepared for the Coroner’s Court.

A statement from Horse Sport Ireland said, “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the young rider who was a much-loved member of the equestrian community,”.
