Gardaí have arrested a teenager following an armed robbery incident that took place in Drogheda, Co Louth yesterday afternoon.
During the incident, a woman was allegedly threatened by a teenager armed with a handgun while she was out walking between Patrick Street and Park View at approximately 3pm.
Initially, the woman was approached by the teenager who demanded money from her numerous times, he subsequently produced a handgun and pointed it at the woman. He then pulled the trigger but no shot was discharged, according to gardaí.
The teenager fled the scene but was arrested by gardaí approximately an hour later.
Gardaí along with the assistance of the Armed Support Unit were deployed to the area and searched the scene.
During the search, a black imitation firearm was discovered in Park View. The firearm is to undergo forensic analysis to determine if it’s the same one that was used earlier during the robbery.
The teenager, aged in his late teens, was located in the area and arrested at approximately 4pm in connection to the armed robbery.
He is currently being detained at Drogheda Garda Station where he can be held for up to 24 hours under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
