Man who slapped French President Emmanuel Macron in face gets four months in prison

The man who slapped French President Emmanuel Macron across the face has been sentenced to four months in prison.

Prosecutors described the incident as “absolutely unacceptable”.

Twenty-eight-year-old Damien Tarel was given a prison sentence of 18 months, with 14 of these suspended.

On Tuesday, footage emerged of Tarel slapping Macron across the face while the French President was on a tour to the Southeast of France.

Tarel was placed under house arrest after the incident until his court hearing today.

Macron was on a tour around France to “take the country’s pulse” as he is expected to run for reelection next year.

Polls show him with just a narrow lead ahead of Marine Le Pen.

This tour has over twelve stops for Macron across a two-month period, where he will be hoping to further expand his lead with Le Pen.
