Police officer pleads guilty to the kidnap and rape of Sarah Everard in London on March 3rd

An English Police Officer has pleaded guilty to the kidnap and rape of Sarah Everard in London on March 3rd.

48-year-old Wayne Couzens appeared at the Old Bailey Court this morning where he accepted responsibility.

33-year-old Sarah Everard went missing as she walked home from a friends house in South London in March of this year.

A major national police operation was launched in an attempt to rescue Everard.

However, her body was found a week after her disappearance in a woodland in Kent.

Everard was discovered inside a bag and was formally identified using her dental records.

Couzens, who was part of the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command unit, was not on duty when he committed the crimes.

He ultimately pleaded guilty to kidnapping Sarah Everard on March 3rd, and pleaded guilty to raping Everard between March 2nd and March 10th.

He was not asked to enter a plea of murder.

A further hearing is due to take place on July 9th.
