Woman critically injured following stabbing incident in Cork

Investigations are ongoing after a woman in her 60s was critically injured following a stabbing incident in Cork yesterday afternoon.

The incident took place at approximately 1:30pm at the woman’s home in Ballycoughlin, near Innishannon where she was found with a number of stab wounds to her arms and upper body.

Emergency services were alerted when the woman was found by a family member. She was treated at the scene by paramedics but was transferred to Cork University Hospital by ambulance where she currently remains in critical condition.

Gardaí arrested a man in his 30s in connection to the stabbing incident. It’s understood that the man was known to the injured woman.

The man was arrested a short time after the incident and was taken to Bandon Garda Station where he is currently being detained and understood to be undergoing a medical assessment.

Gardaí are carrying out door-to-door enquiries to see if anyone noticed any suspicious activity in the area.

Gardaí are also appealing to anyone who may have any information in relation to the incident to contact Bandon Garda Station at 023 8852200, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
