Man jailed for raping woman that he met on dating app

A man has been jailed for seven-and-a-half years for attacking and raping a woman that he met on Tinder.

Peter Loughran (36) pleaded guilty before the Central Criminal Court to rape and oral rape at an address on the 5th of January 2018.

After developing an incurable STD, the victim stated that Loughran destroyed her life and changed it drastically while adding, “The memories of that day of horror will never be erased from my mind no matter how hard I try,”.

Stating that she had suffered “very significant and terrible damage”, Justice Paul McDermott said that the offences were carried out in her home by “essentially a trusted guest” in a degrading manner while her pleas for Loughran to stop were rejected.

Loughran was sentenced to nine years in prison with the final 18 months suspended under strict conditions. The conditions are that he refrains from using online dating apps and to not contact the victim or her family.
