Man charged with abduction of 14-year-old girl

Nojus Maculevicius (18) has been charged with the abduction of a 14-year-old girl who was found safe and well in Belfast on Thursday.

Maculevicius appeared before Belfast Magistrates Court via video link from Musgrave PSNI station where he was charged with five offences.

His first charge is for detaining a person contrary to Article 4 of the Child Abduction Northern Ireland Order 1985. His other charges were in relation to driving without a licence nor insurance.

He was released on bail to live with his family in Blackrock, Co Louth on certain conditions.

The first condition being that his parents lodge a cash surety of £5,000, zero contact can be made towards the girl or her family, as well as the surrendering of Maculevicius’ passport. He will appear in court again by video link on the 4th of May.
