Man on trial in Spain for murdering mother and eating remains

A man has been put on trial in Spain for murdering his mother and eating her remains afterwards. A 15-year sentence is being sought by Spanish prosecutors for the man, known as the ‘cannibal of Ventas’, who went on trial this week.

The incident occurred back in 2019 when the man strangled his 69-year-old mother after a row they had in the apartment that they shared. Following the strangulation, it is alleged that the man cut her body up using a saw and two kitchen knives.

Arrested on the 23rd of February 2019 after police were inquiring about his missing mother, the man allowed the officers into the apartment after assuring them that she was inside the with one officer describing the scene as “hellish”.

A police officer who arrived at the scene stated that the man had told him that he ate some of the remains.

As well as the 15-year sentence, prosecutors are also calling for the man to pay €90,000 in compensation to his brother.
