Three men charged in connection to Regency Hotel shooting

Three men have appeared before the Special Criminal Court in connection to the 2016 Regency Hotel shooting where Kinahan gang member David Byrne was shot dead. Patrick Dowdall, Paul Murphy and Jason Bonney appeared before a three-judge court with no jury yesterday evening.

Paul Murphy and Jason Bonney were both charged with participating in an activity that contributed to an offence by a criminal organisation as they provided access to individual motor vehicles to that criminal organisation on the 5th of February 2016.

Patrick Dowdall was charged with making a room available for the criminal organisation at the Regency Hotel which meant that he was participating in an activity that allowed a criminal organisation to commit an offence.

Murphy is to remain in custody until tomorrow pending a bail application while Dowdall was remanded in custody until Monday while a similar application is expected to be made.

Bonney was remanded in custody until next Monday while visibility on Bonney’s financial circumstances is made with Mr Justice Hunt stating, “It doesn’t justify a complete refusal of bail. That is the basis upon which the court will grant bail. We will see what progress can be made,”.
