Two arrests made following taxi hijacking in Galway

Two men, aged in their 30s and 20s, have been arrested after a taxi driver was attacked and had his car stolen last night in Galway.

It is understood that the men entered the taxi at approximately 11:30pm and asked to be brought to a location outside the city.

While on the M18 one of the men attacked the driver and took control of the vehicle before the taxi driver was thrown out.

The driver, aged in his early 40s, was shaken by the incident but was not seriously injured and managed to alert gardaí.

The car was stopped by a number of garda patrol cars on Bóthar na dTreabh after it was spotted in Clareglaway. The men were arrested nearby after fleeing the vehicle and are both currently being detained at the regional garda headquarters.
