Garda hospitalised following drug operation in Cork

A garda officer is currently being hospitalised at Cork University Hospital after being struck by a car in Skibbereen, west Cork.

Gardaí grew suspicious of a transaction that occurred between a car and a pedestrian in the area.

Initially, the garda officer approached the car while patrolling the area yesterday evening when the motorist suspected of drug dealing fled the scene.

Upon fleeing the scene, the motorist subsequently struck the garda officer at approximately 7:30pm.

The garda was taken to hospital where her injuries are understood to not be non-life-threatening.

The search of a nearby property led to the seizure of €5,500 worth of suspected cannabis and over €3,000 in cash which led to the arrest of a man in his 20s. Further searches led to the seizure of €600 worth of suspected cannabis along with €300 in cash which led to the arrest of a man in his 30s.
