An extension could be placed on the mandatory hotel quarantine list as early as the weekend according to Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney.
The list will be extended once the concerns regarding legal challenges and necessary capacity are dealt with.
This follows the recent addition of 26 new countries to the list which means people from 59 designated countries can travel to Ireland via mandatory hotel quarantine.
An individual must quarantine for 12 days; however, this mandatory stay may be reduced once a person tests negative on the tenth day. A positive test may extend the time spent in quarantine but will be State-paid upon exceeding the 12th day.
