Officer dead following car-ramming at US Capitol

One officer has been killed and another injured after a vehicle rammed through security at the US Capitol.

The attacker emerged from his car and lunged at officers with a knife before being shot dead.

The attacker’s motivation nor his identity has been determined yet but a terror link is not suspected according to Washington Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee. An investigation into the attack will continue.

Following the attack, US President Joe Biden sent his condolences to the security guard ‘William Evans’, who was an 18-year veteran of the force; stating, “Jill and I were heartbroken to learn of the violent attack at a security checkpoint on the US Capitol grounds, which killed Officer William Evans of the US Capitol Police, and left a fellow officer fighting for his life.”
