AstraZeneca vaccine suspended in German state for over 60s

Berlin has suspended the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine for people over the age of 60 following blood clot reports.

This precautionary decision comes after nine people died from blood clots after receiving the vaccination with 2.7 million doses being administered in Germany to date.

Several European countries had temporarily suspended the vaccine due to a blood clot called sinus vein thrombosis but have since resumed its use following a review by medical experts.

Two Berlin-based hospitals have stopped administering the vaccine to women under the age of 55 due to the blood clot risk.
