Gardaí permitted to accept surplus vaccines if offered

Gardaí have been granted permission to accept surplus vaccines if they are offered by the HSE as there has been frustration expressed by garda unions in relation to clarity on when members of the force will be vaccinated.

Despite being frontline workers, there has been little to no clarity on when members of An Garda Síochánna will be offered their Covid-19 vaccinations.

The disclarity has been brought along by the government’s vaccination sequencing programme which suggests that gardaí could potentially fall under cohort six as key vaccine programme workers or cohort 10 as other essential workers.

It is understood that the spare vaccines will be offered to specific units and members first with frontline gardaí being a prioritisation and those who are medically vulnerable.
