Gardaí issue more than €2.2 million worth of fines for virus breaches

Over 16,500 fines have been issued by gardaí which totals more than €2.2 for Covid-19 breaches.

There have been a total of 58 fines of €500 for organising an event that was not classified as a house party which totalled €29,000. A total of 2,159 €150 fines have been issued for attending house parties which totalled €323,850.

Fines for non-essential travel totalled to €1,233,600 with an additional €360,500 issued for non-essential travel to airports or ports.

Fines for not wearing face coverings totalled to €23,440. The 16,434 fines add up to a potential €2,278,690 while a further 400 fines are currently being processed.
