Minister for Public Expenditure Michael McGrath has stated that Ireland’s hotel quarantine system is to come into effect by next weekend.
McGrath added that the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly will be outlining how the regime will work in the coming days.
The system, which was signed into law two weeks ago, was designed for arrivals entering Ireland from designated countries.
The list of 33 countries predominantly consists of those located in Africa and South America.
In relation to the system, McGrath stated that “It does involve very significant interference with civil liberties, but it is for the greater good.”
