Use of AstraZeneca vaccine to resume tomorrow

NPHET have stated that AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine will continue to be used in Ireland starting tomorrow following advice from the National Immunisation Advisory Committee.

Recently, the vaccine was temporarily suspended in many countries throughout the EU following reports of blood clotting.

However, an investigation from the European Medicines Agency concluded that there was no link between the blood clots and the vaccination while adding that the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risk of side effects.

Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn stated that the HSE will now recommence administering the vaccine tomorrow while urging anyone who is offered the vaccine to take it.
