Major Garda operation under way for St. Patrick’s Day

A major garda operation is under way nationwide to prevent people taking part in protests, street or house parties this St. Patrick’s day.

It comes amid warnings that compliance with Covid-19 restrictions by members of the public has deteriorated.

Three public order units and a peaceful crowd management unit have been deployed to various parts of Dublin city, along with the dog and mounted units.

However, the Policing Authority has warned that compliance levels are “fraying” because of “an inevitable level of weariness” with the restrictions.

Gardaí have cordoned-off key locations in Dublin this morning where they suspect anti-vaccine, anti-mask and anti-lockdown protesters might gather.
