Covid-19 restrictions reintroduced in Italy as cases rise

Covid-19 restrictions have been reimposed in the majority of Italy due to a surge in infections.

The restrictions will remain in place until the 6th of April for 75% of the country in an attempt to suppress this new outbreak which has been caused by the variant first detected in Britain.

Shops, museums, schools and restaurants are to close with residents being urged to stay at home with the exception of essential reasons such as work or health.

It is hoped by the government that these restrictions along with the vaccine rollout will allow the easing of curbs at a later date.
