Martin Gallagher (21) has been jailed for six years for the attempted kidnapping of a 70-year-old woman in Dublin. He was sentenced before Judge Martin Nolan at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Gallagher bundled the pensioner into the boot of his car while she was out walking but told gardaà that it was a joke that went wrong.
The incident occurred on January 6th 2020 at approximately 7:30am when the woman was grabbed by Gallagher and thrown into the boot but he failed to close it as she continued to sit up.
She was then pulled out of the boot and put in front of the car where she continued to scream and fight him off before she was thrown against a wall.
Gallagher told gardaà that he had been drinking the day before and had mistaken the woman for his friend Alex and as a result, wanted to play a joke on him by pretending to kidnap him.
Judge Nolan described Gallagher’s defence as implausible and then disregarded it. Stating that Gallagher deserved a long time in custody, Judge Martin Nolan sentenced him to six years in prison.
