Mandatory hotel quarantine signed into law

President Michael D Higgins has signed a mandatory hotel quarantine for passengers from high-risk countries into law.

The quarantine will apply to 33 countries that are currently on the category 2 list where the risk for virus transmission or mutation is high.

Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly stated that the next step would be to finalise and sign with a service provider which is expected to happen shortly.

The challenging aspect of the quarantine will be the private security staff employed to enforce the quarantine and other forms of management that will take place in the hotel such as frequent testing, food delivery arrangements and physical exercise.

It is understood that gardaĆ will get involved if there is a failure to comply with the quarantine rules.
