Anti-lockdown protest in Cork ends peacefully

An anti-lockdown protest that took place in Cork city has ended without incident.

According to gardaí, an extensive policing plan had been put in place for the event which was attended by 400-500 people, many of which were not wearing face coverings.

A spokesman for the group ‘The People’s Convention’ Diarmaid Ó Cadhla told the crowd that the rally was a peaceful law-abiding assembly. He stated that the figures were being “distorted” and claimed that they were not all Covid-related. As well as this, he claimed that neither NPHET nor the government was telling the truth about the virus.

Diarmaid, who condemned the violence at the rally in Dublin, stated that he was not the organiser of the rally and would not identify the organisers.

Lord Mayor of Cork Councillor Joe Kavanagh called for the organiser to cancel the rally and urged people to not attend.
