Dr Ronan Glynn urges parents to not gather at school gates

Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn has issued a letter appealing to parents and guardians to not gather at school gates when kids return to school.

Warning that the virus is continuing to circulate at high levels; Dr Glynn stated, “We must do all we can individually and collectively to ensure that the reopening of schools results in the minimum possible upward pressure on the reproduction number.”

A phased return to schools will begin on Monday for the first time this year. The phased return was recommended to ensure a safe reopening of schools which is the National Public Health Emergency Team’s priority.

Dr Glynn also added that the risk of Covid-19 has been weighed against the harm caused by long school closures.
