Government may reject €9 substantial meal rule for pubs this year

The Recovery and Renewal 2021- The Path Ahead plan, laid out by the government, has not mentioned any form of a mandatory substantial meal to be purchased with a drink at a pub.

This rule was enforced last year by gardaí by receipt checks to ensure the rule was being adhered to.

When asked about the situation, Taoiseach Micheál Martin stated that the government will be approaching it in a new manner this year.

As a result, pub-goers may not have to buy a €9 substantial meal along with their drink under the new Covid plan, which informs the public of what they can expect if the virus is suppressed.
