Extended opening hours for pubs to be considered

Sunday pub opening hours and nightclubs will likely be allowed to extend their opening hours under a plan by the Minister for Justice.

This comes as the government plans to recover the hospitality sector after the Level 5 restrictions are lifted. The nightclub sector has argued that extended opening hours will be essential for financial viability and to better serve tourists.

Minister McEntee stated, “This is about revitalising these vital industries and preparing for life after Covid, when our cultural and hospitality sectors can flourish again,”.

Staggered and extended closing times for pubs and nightclubs will also be looked at.

As the easing of restrictions will be achieved in a slow and cautious manner, Taoiseach Micheál Martin stated that the hospitality sector will not reopen before mid-Summer.
