Cabinet to consider legislation over mandatory hotel quarantine

Legislation leading to the introduction of mandatory quarantining at hotels in Ireland will be presented to the Cabinet this morning by Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly.

It is understood his intention is to introduce a bill into the Dáil as early as this Thursday, with the aim of having the legislation signed into law by the first week in March.

The aim of the legislation is to further curtail international travel into the State, and thereby reduce the transmission of the Covid-19 virus.

Mandatory quarantine at a hotel for up to 14 days will apply to all persons, irrespective of their nationality, who arrive from countries deemed to be high risk.
