NTA to set aside €240 million for greenways and cycle paths

The National Transport Authority will be setting aside €240 million to fund the construction of more greenways and cycle paths across the country.

Many projects are scheduled for construction this year which will include the reallocation of road space in certain areas where the cycle lanes are being placed, widened footpaths, cyclist parking, raised pedestrian crossings and the reduction in road width at crossing points.

Transport minister Eamon Ryan stated that this project will provide “green sustainable mobility options to our cities, suburbs and hinterlands.”

During the lockdown, many people have been restricted to exercising locally and can see where improvements to walking and cycling infrastructures can be made, Mr Ryan added.
