Breaching of 5km limit has led to 29 fines since Monday

Since the introduction of the 5km travel limit, there have been 29 €100 fines handed out by gardaí. The fines were issued to people who travelled more than 5km from their homes and were unable to provide a reasonable excuse.

There were also 50 fixed charge notices issued by gardaí for illegal and dangerous parking in Wicklow last weekend.

While urging people to stay at home and to only make essential journeys, Deputy Commissioner John Twomey stated that the restrictions will not apply to those in domestic violence incidents’ or people in fear or at risk of harm.
