Motorists are being urged to be careful after a woman skidded off the road and ended up in the River Deel at Newbridge in Askeaton, Limerick.
The incident occurred on the 9th of January shortly after 9pm when gardaí in Rathkeale received reports that a car had ended up in the River Deel.
Water had risen to the woman’s waist level and she was unable to exit the car due to the strong current. Garda Michael Hally and Garda Andrew Maher entered the water and brought the woman to the riverbank.
The driver, who wants to remain anonymous, was shaken by the incident but suffered no injuries. The woman stated, “I just really want to thank the two Gardaí, Michael and Andrew, The Fire Brigade and the Ambulance Services for coming to my rescue. Without their help, who knows what could have happened to me.”
