Man extradited from US charged over fatal car crash

A man who was extradited from the US has been charged in relation to a fatal car crash back in June 2017.

The two passengers of the car, Orla O’Malley and Seán Halloran, were killed when the car crashed into a wall at Churchfield. The driver of the car ‘Francis Carr’ was seriously injured following the crash and left for the US soon after.

He was arrested on foot of an extradition warrant during the Summer and has been held in custody since.

Appearing before Castlebar District Court this morning, Mr Carr made no reply to the charge.

State Solicitor for Mayo ‘Vincent Deane’ asked for a return for trial during the next sitting on the 26th of January. Mr Carr was granted free legal aid with Solicitor Tom Walsh stating that the accused was prepared to remain in custody.
