A garda officer who suffered a broken nose and injuries to her eye socket was assaulted by a close associate of Islamic State suspect ‘Lisa Smith’.
The man, aged in his 30s, was stopped by gardaí in Dundalk for using a mobile phone while driving.
A senior source stated that the unprovoked attack occurred when gardaí informed the man that his vehicle was being seized.
The source added, “After being arrested his violent behaviour carried on all the way back to the station and in the station.”
