Government plans to distribute 14 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine in five types of location

Cabinet will today sign off on a plan to deliver more than €100 million worth of vaccines across the country, as the State moves to implement its Covid-19 inoculation programme.

The State will roll out 14 million doses of at least five different vaccines.

The details of the programme are contained in a new report prepared by a high-level taskforce chaired by Prof Brian MacCraith, which details the types of locations which will be used at different stages of the planned roll-out.

The first locations will be hospitals, followed by long-term residential care facilities, which will be served by mobile distribution teams from a nearby hospital.

There will then be centralised mass vaccination centres, and once broader sections of society are vaccinated GPs and pharmacies will play a bigger role.
