Investigation underway following garda station party during Level 5 restrictions

An internal garda inquiry is underway into a party that took place at a garda station during the Level 5 lockdown.

The gathering, which took place in mid-November, took place at Tramore Garda Station in Co Waterford.

The Director of Public Prosecutions will be consulted for sanctions if it is discovered that the gathering was organised.

The gathering was the result of a garda officer being promoted where a large number of garda officers were in attendance.

Following the gathering, two garda officers tested positive for Covid-19 but it was later established that they did not contract it from the gathering.
