Garda seriously injured following hit-and-run on M1 motorway

An investigation is underway after a garda was seriously injured following a hit-and-run in Co Louth. The incident occurred at a mobile speed check on the M1 motorway at approximately 1:45pm when the car initially stopped at the check.

The Dundalk-based garda walked over to the car to speak to the driver but the driver left the scene at speed and struck the garda.

No arrests have been made following the incident as neither the car nor the driver has been located yet. The garda was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information or dash-cam footage of the incident to contact Dundalk Garda Station at 042 938 8400.
