Gardaí to remove Covid-19 checkpoints from motorways and dual carriageways

As the country moves from level 5 to Level 3 from tomorrow, gardaí have stated that checkpoints located on motorways and dual carriageways will be removed.

However, Operation Fanacht will remain in operation throughout the country’s main routes as people have been asked to not travel outside their county before the 18th of December.

The remaining checkpoints stationed on main routes throughout the country will be conducted to ensure compliance on inter-county travel guidelines.

The ongoing operation will also include high visibility patrols in city, urban and retail locations. Operation Navigation will be back in order to conduct checks on licensed premises. Under Operation Faoiseamh there will be continued investigations into domestic abuse, as well as support for victims.
