Dissident republican sentenced to 22 years for prison officer’s murder

A dissident republican has been sentenced to a minimum of 22 years for the murder of 52-year-old prison officer Adrian Ismay in 2016.

Mr Ismay suffered serious leg injuries when a semtex bomb exploded underneath his van in east Belfast.

As a result of his injuries, Mr Ismay died 11 days after the incident when a blood clot linked to the attack triggered a heart attack.

Sentenced at Belfast Crown Court, Christopher Robinson (50) played an “intimate and inextricable” role in the murder of Mr Ismay according to Mr Justice Gerry McAlinden.
