Galway fishermen ‘Morgan and Patrick Oliver’ rescue another swimmer

Morgan and Patrick Oliver have been honoured for another sea rescue off Galway’s coast after coming to the aid of a swimmer who got into difficulty off Salthill this morning.

The two fishermen received national attention during the Summer when they rescued two paddleboarders who became stranded in the sea overnight after drifting away from the shore.

Back in September, Morgan and Patrick rescued another swimmer who got into difficulty in the River Corrib.

The two fishermen were fishing off Salthill when they noticed a man take refuge on Palmer’s Rock.

After taking the man onboard their boat, they brought him back to the lifeboat station, during which he was treated for hypothermia until an ambulance arrived.

The Irish Coast guard and the RNLI warned of the dangers of Winter swimming as the number of call-outs to open water swimmers has increased in the past month.
