Indonesian police have discovered dozens of parrots found inside plastic bottles which were found on a ship docked in the country’s Papua region.
The ship’s crew heard noises from a large box and suspected that there were animals inside it.
There were 64 black-capped lories and another ten dead birds found inside the box.
Large-scale illegal trading of birds is believed to be responsible as the birds can either be sold in giant avian markets located in Indonesia’s major cities or they can also be smuggled abroad which is why they were placed inside bottles.
The intended destination of the birds is unclear and no arrests have been made yet.
