Donald Trump fires Defence Secretary Mark Esper

US President Donald Trump has announced that he has fired his Defence Secretary Mark Esper.

Mr Trump made the announcement via Twitter stating, “Mark Esper has been terminated. I would like to thank him for his service,”.

The current head of the National Counterterrorism Centre ‘Christopher Miller’ will be taking Mark’s place as Defence Secretary.

Following the election, sources state that Mr Esper had been preparing for his resignation, particularly in the scenario of Mr Trump winning the second election.

The Pentagon has not yet commented on the situation.
