Following an investigation in the Munster region, eight gardaí have been suspended following allegations of corruption.
The investigation, lead by an Assistant Commissioner, Special Crime Operations, follows enquiries by a team of officers from the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
A number of garda stations have also been searched following the investigation and a number of gardaí are being informally interviewed by investigators.
A number of voluntary statements have been made by gardaí in relation to the investigation.
As the investigation is ongoing, An Garda Síochána will not be commenting on the rank or location of the members of gardaí who were suspended.
