Irish Huawei global communications leader ‘Joe Kelly’ dies aged 55

Tech giant Huawei’s Vice President of corporate communications ‘Joe Kelly’ has died at the age of 55. Originally from Donegal, the Irish businessman worked at the tech company’s China-based headquarters in Shenzhen.

Before working for Huawei, Mr Kelly worked as a journalist as well as working in the public relations and communications sector of telecom and tech companies such as BT and Xerox.

Graduating from the University of Ulster with an arts degree, Mr Kelly became an integral part of representing Huawei when he joined the company in 2012.

In recent years, Mr Kelly helped Huawei fight back against claims by the US government that its technology could potentially be used for spying purposes.

A Huawei colleague paid tribute to Joe Kelly’s death stating, “He will be greatly missed and we send our deepest condolences to Joe’s family, whom we will do all we can help through this very difficult time.”
