Man who died in kite-surfing incident at Dollymount Strand named locally

The kite-surfer who died after getting into difficulties in the water has been identified as 39-year-old Ger Fennelly.

Ger was taking part in a charity event at Dollymount Strand for Mental Health Ireland when he got into difficulties.

He was pronounced dead at the scene upon arrival of emergency services.

Mr Fennelly had been an active member at the Piranha Triathlon Club and had been involved in kite-surfing for 14 years as well as completing Ironman Barcelona in 2018.

He is survived by his parents and his sister.
