French police release initial suspect following the shooting of Greek Orthodox priest in Lyon

French police have widened their search for the gunman who seriously injured a priest outside a church in Lyon and has released the initial suspect that was believed to be involved in the shooting.

The man, who was arrested shortly after the shooting, was released due to a lack of evidence that would suggest his involvement.

The Greek Orthodox priest was identified as Reverend Nikolaos Kakavelakis and remains in critical condition.

Following a number of recent attacks in France, the French Prime Minister has promised to have more protection at religious sites.
