Petrol and diesel prices to increase tonight

As the carbon tax is to increase by €7.50 per tonne of Co2, Minister for Finance ‘Paschal Donohoe’ stated in his Budget 2021 speech that petrol and diesel prices are to increase.

This will come into effect for other fuels by the 1st of May.

This tax hike, from €26 per tonne of Co2 to €33.50, will add approximately 2.5c per litre of diesel and petrol.

According to legislation that will be provided by the Finance Bill, the tax will increase by €7.50 each year up to 2029 and by €6.50 in 2030, this will bring the total to €100 per tonne of C02.
